Dear Villagers
Sadly the Parish Council were unable to organise a village litter pick last Autumn. We will arrange one for Spring and 29th March is the target date.
Although these events are good to do, they are only twice a year and you will have noticed the ever-increasing incidence of litter on our roads and greens ā mostly from the increased traffic and sometimes from the NHDC recycling collections on a windy day.
Can I appeal to your community spirit? No magic fairies are going to come and clean up our environment so can we all do our bit to keep things tidy?
I know some of us already do this, but could every householder take responsibility for the road and green outside their house and keep it clear of litter?
If you fancy doing a solo litter pick over a larger area please do. (A high vis, gloves and litter picker are advised). A couple of weeks ago I completed a litter pick on Rooks Nest Lane from the village to Chapel Green and picked up 304 items of rubbish ā mostly cans (surprising amounts of alcohol), coffee cups and fast food.
When dog walking or out for a stroll take a bag and pick up odd bits of rubbish on our footpaths.
We have waste bins at the Recreation Ground, playground and the village green, dog poo bins on Mill Lane, the village green and Hoops Lane and larger amounts of litter can also go to the dump in Royston.
Any fly tipping can be reported to NHDC via their website and they are pretty quick at coming to clear reported issues.
Iām a firm believer that if we can keep things tidy people will be less inclined to drop litter than when it is seen all around. If you plan to keep a stretch of our roads clear regularly, please let me know ā Tim Jeffries via the parish clerk on therfieldclerk2@gmail.com
